How you log into JSTOR depends on what kind of researcher you are and where you're logging in from—be it from a school campus, a library, or even from home.

How do I access JSTOR as a university student or faculty member?
I'm logging in from OFF campus
Option 1: Search the Institution Finder
- Visit the JSTOR Institution Finder and search for the name or your school or institution.
- From the search results, click on your school's name and enter your university credentials to sign in.
Not sure what your university credentials are? They're usually the username and password you use to check your university mail or log in to your courses. If you’re still not able to log in, check with your school’s library or IT department to make sure you’re using the right credentials.
Option 2: Log in from your library’s website
If your school subscribes to JSTOR, your school’s library website may have an off-campus sign-in link.
- Visit your school’s library website and look for words such as:
- Databases
- A-Z List
- eResources
- Off-campus access
- Find and click on your library's JSTOR link.
- Enter your university credentials to sign in.
Not sure what your university credentials are? They're usually the username and password you use to check your university mail or log in to your courses. If you’re still not able to log in, check with your school’s library or IT department to make sure you’re using the right credentials.
Option 3: Log in with Microsoft or Google Single Sign-On (SSO)
If your school uses Google or Microsoft sign-in for your library or school website, then you may be able to access JSTOR with your school-affiliated Google or Microsoft account.
- Visit to JSTOR login page.
- Choose Log in with Google or Log in with Microsoft, depending on which type of account you have.
- You must log in with your school-affiliated email address. This is what allows JSTOR to recognize that you're a member of your school.
- Follow the prompts to sign into your Google or Microsoft account using your username and password.
Option 4: Talk to your librarian

I'm logging in from ON campus
If you're on your university’s campus and/or using their internet connection, you may already be connected to JSTOR. Here's how to check:
- Visit jstor.org.
- If it says Access provided by [Your Institution's Name] at the top of the page, you're already logged in through your school’s subscription and can access everything your library subscribes to.
- If you still see a Log in button, don't worry, this is for logging into a personal JSTOR account. With a personal JSTOR account, you can save what you find on JSTOR so that you don’t lose your work later on. Learn more about Benefits of a Personal JSTOR account.
If you don't see your institution's name at the top of the page but you're on campus, contact your library for the quickest solution to getting access to research materials.
How do I access JSTOR as a high school student?
Most high schools offer two ways to access: on campus or off campus. High schools don’t usually use the Institution Finder for access to JSTOR, but there are some exceptions. If you know that your high school has a proxy, see Search the Institution Finder.
I'm logging in from OFF campus
Option 1: Log in from your school or library's website
Many high schools offer access via a password-protected link on your school or library's website:
- Verify with your librarian that this is the way they've decided to provide access.
- If your school provides this login method, log in to your high school’s website.
- Find and click on the link to JSTOR and you will be automatically logged in.
If you've logged in successfully, you'll see Access provided by [Your High School Name] at the top of any page on JSTOR. If you don't see your school's name, talk to your librarian for more help.
Option 2: Log in with Microsoft or Google Single Sign-On (SSO)
If your school uses Google or Microsoft sign-in for your library or school website, then you may be able to access JSTOR with your school-affiliated Google or Microsoft account.
- Visit to JSTOR login page.
- Choose Log in with Google or Log in with Microsoft, depending on which type of account you have.
- You must log in with your school-affiliated email address. This is what allows JSTOR to recognize that you're a member of your school.
- Follow the prompts to sign into your Google or Microsoft account using your username and password.
If you've logged in successfully, you'll see Access provided by [Your High School Name] at the top of any page on JSTOR. If you don't see your school's name, talk to your librarian for more help.
Option 3: Log in with a shared username and password
If your librarian has given you a username and password to log on to JSTOR directly:
- Visit the JSTOR login page.
- Enter your school’s username and password and click the Login button.
- While we at JSTOR support cannot provide you with this login information, your librarian or teacher can!
If you've logged in successfully, you'll see Access provided by [Your High School Name] at the top of any page on JSTOR. If you don't see your school's name, talk to your librarian for more help.

If you’re using your high school’s internet connection, you may already be connected to JSTOR. Here's how to check:
- Visit jstor.org.
- If yousee Access provided by [Your High School] at the top of the screen, you’re logged in and can access everything your school subscribes to.
If you don't see this, try talking to your librarian. We might need more information from your school, or they might have other access options that JSTOR.
