The second dungeon for Persona 5 Royal is Madarame’s Museum, where you’ll be changing the heart of Ichiryusai Madarame, a prolific artist who presents as having a passion for passing on his skills while secretly using and abusing his students’ talent.

By this point, you’ll have met Yusuke Kitagawa, the peculiar art student who was orphaned as a child and lives with Madarame, seeing him as both an instructor and a father-figure. But you know something isn’t quite right with this situation, so follow along in our guide to sail through Madarame’s Museum of Vanity and bring this crook to justice.

For this guide, we’ll be focusing exclusively on the dungeon itself and not the goings-on outside the Metaverse. This guide walks you from your first step into the palace all the way up to boss fight.

We’ve additionally got guides for how to defeat the boss shadows in each palace, too, as well as a full Will Seeds walkthrough.

Preliminary Information

Persona 5 Royal: Madarame's Palace Walkthrough (1)

Before you get into the Museum itself, take a second to check on yourself, your party, and your Personas. You ought to be hovering around an average of Level 20 Personas around now, and you’ll want strong ones to use against the coming enemies.

You're still locked into the party of Morgana, Ryuji, and Ann for now, so make sure Joker has a good spread of Personas before you head in. Anything you captured back in Kamoshida's Palace is available in the Velvet Room for use or fusion.

You may notice that Regent has many more affinities than the rest of the shadows. That's because it's not a normal shadow — it's a Treasure Demon, and we'll cover them a bit more when you get to the section of the palace where you find it.

First Phase Of The Infiltration

Persona 5 Royal: Madarame's Palace Walkthrough (2)

Getting Into The Museum

You cannot finish this palace in one day. It's not that we don't believe in you — the game will force you to leave for a day to do some real-world things at a point, and you'll have to do the next part the following day (or anytime after that, before the deadline).

Do not save this dungeon for the last possible day.

When you arrive, approach the truck in the row of cars at the entrance and use it to jump the wall. There’ll be a grassy area here, so head right and go until hitting the fountain. You’re able to climb the pedestals here, so hop across them until you hit a guard. Either fight them or avoid them, then climb until you find a window on the roof that’s thankfully been left open for you.

Welcome to the special exhibition room. Check out the paintings in here before heading to the third gallery using Joker’s grappling hook. There are infrared sensors in here, so don’t try to leave this area unless you’re looking for a fight. If you approach them, you’re able to slide underneath.

The Special Exhibition Room And Surrounding Halls

There are two guards ahead by the security sensors, and you’ll likely need to fight, but this is a great chance to start collecting the Personas for this palace. Move forward until you hit another sensor, and slide under that, too.

Persona 5 Royal: Madarame's Palace Walkthrough (3)

After dealing with the shadow here, go straight toward the wall until you see a second one, and either fight or avoid them. Go through the hole in here and jump over the next set of sensors, but make sure you unlock the elevator here.

Go into the reception area, where two more shadows await. Either fight them, or hug the wall to avoid them and move forward. Ahead, slide through the sensors, and then climb the stairs. Go in the door here, then head right, following the hall until you’re able to make a left. Navigate the sensors here, and you’ll find a safe room.

From the safe room, go right until you see a guard, and either fight or avoid them. If you make a left, and then hug the wall until you can make a right, there will be another shadow, but there’s also a treasure chest — it’s in the corner that looks like it’s right above the safe room.

Go down this hall and take the path that leads to another hallway for a shadow fight and your next objective. There’ll be an arrow pointing right with a treasure chest behind it, so grab that before leaving, taking this path until you can make a left. Deal with this shadow, then head straight to open the door on your left, creating a shortcut for later. Go back and head upstairs.

The Gold Vase Puzzle

When you pass a gold vase up here, there’s a cutscene before the Thieves are forcibly separated. It’s up to Joker to reunite the team.

  • To free Ann: Climb the ledges to your right and find the button behind a cabinet.
  • To free Ryuji: Climb back to the ledges and cross an area you couldn’t before, and then drop down and remove the painting ahead of you to find the button.
  • To free Morgana: Climb the crates with a button next to them and use the vent to get to the security office. Leave the office to overhead shadows sharing the password for the computer in the office (07734), and then turn around and enter it into the computer.
Persona 5 Royal: Madarame's Palace Walkthrough (4)

The button beside the crate when freeing Ryuji is a red herring and will spawn shadows instead, but feel free to hit it if you want the XP.

Treasure Demons And Finishing For Now

With the team back together now, there’s another cutscene before you interact with the golden vase, which releases Regent, your very first Treasure Demon. These are shadows with tricky affinities that take next to no damage from any element other than what they’re weak to. Either catch them for fusion fodder or defeat them for a hefty payout.

After Regent, go down the hall and turn left, going over the wall. If you’d like some items, you can find them in the bathroom here, or simply keep going (left, from the bathroom), taking the first right to locate another safe room.

Persona 5 Royal: Madarame's Palace Walkthrough (5)

Climb over the wall to your right once you leave, and go into the bathroom for a treasure chest before going to the second exhibition room gallery for a cutscene. Hide after it and go to the northmost panel, climbing over the green one and using the grappling hook to turn off the nearby switch.

Hop down and go to the nearby stairs, unlocking the door and heading left to go to the room with a treasure chest. In the middle of this room, look for an upper ledge to which you can grapple. Go straight on this ledge before hopping over a wall, landing on a low section to look for a treasure here.

Save or heal as needed before leaving again, going down the hall toward the room with machines. Stay against the wall, and then climb the stairs for some treasure chests before going back down them to where you began again. Defeat these shadows, then follow the hall until you hit the gallery.

After a cutscene following the first of Madarame’s Will Seeds, multiple shadows spawn: one guards a treasure chest at the end of the room. Regardless, you’re still trapped, so you’ll need another way out. To leave, look for the distorted painting, and then take it down to find a button behind it that opens the entrances.

You’ll stumble on a room like a safe room before Ryuji stops you. Keep going and move the dividers to discover lasers all over the floor here. You’ll have to leave the dungeon for now.

Second Phase Of The Infiltration

Persona 5 Royal: Madarame's Palace Walkthrough (6)

Mona will tell you he’s found some rooms that might help deal with security, and even help you get the treasure, but you’ll have to make some real-world changes first.

Morgana explains that Madarame’s house reflects his palace, so to move on, his actual house will need to be changed. While he and Ann work on that in the real world, Joker and Ryuji go back to the palace to advance when able.

Awakening Goemon

When you can, run down this hall and go in the room there, where a rare shadow will appear and trigger a mini-boss fight against Nue. For info on the fight, check out the affinities table above.

There’s a cutscene involving the Sayuri painting before you have control of Joker again. Go to the security room and use the activated laptop here to disarm the security system. When you’ve finished your part, you join back up with Morgana and Ann, who now have Yusuke with them as well. Prepare for another cutscene.

After it ends, go down the hall parallel to the safe room, and once you get out of here, you’re in a distorted gallery. Yusuke’s realizations in this room are hefty, but listen for his info about Madarame.

Persona 5 Royal: Madarame's Palace Walkthrough (7)

After another cutscene, head down the stairs with the large statue, and more shadows will be here before Shadow Madarame makes an appearance himself (along with security guards). Shadow Madarame has a villain-exposition moment that results in Yusuke losing it hard, but this rage awakens his Persona, Goemon, who he gets to use immediately against the shadows.

Morgana will no longer be in your party, replaced by Yusuke, who fares well in this fight as an example of what he and his rad new ice powers are all about. He does fall, though, and you’ll see another cutscene.

You flee to Leblanc, and Yusuke asks to join the Phantom Thieves for real. He’ll now be available to use in your party at any time.

Third Phase Of The Infiltration

Persona 5 Royal: Madarame's Palace Walkthrough (8)

First, there's a long cutscene of the Thieves explaining what they do to Yusuke, as well as helping him pick a name for himself. When they’re done, switch your party around if you’d like and then fast-travel to the last safe room you activated, leaving and heading toward the folding doors.

Deal with the shadow before going up the stairs to fight another, and then head toward the Golden Brochure Stand, where you’ll find the dungeon map.

Go straight, turning left when you’re able to snag a treasure chest, and then run toward the opposite end of this hallway to make another left. Make your way toward the door at the end of this hall, dealing with the shadows and grabbing the treasure before leaving through the closed door.

Security

Make a left in this hallway to find yourselves in a maze, along with three shadows. Watch for lasers here, and keep to the left for now to get to the first shadow. After taking it out, turn left to engage another shadow, then finally move onto the third. After a slight right, there’ll be another shadow here, and after finishing it off, go to the southwest corner of the room.

Slide under the lasers to grab a chest, and then go to the northwest corner, where you’ll find the security room (and another chest). You can walk through the large painting here, crossing to the other one until you can access a ledge. Follow it until you find a vent, then crawl through that.

Follow the vent until you come to a T-intersection, and choose the left path before jumping back out. Unlock the door on your right for both treasure and a shortcut. Heading left from here, you’ll notice the next mini-boss up ahead.

Persona 5 Royal: Madarame's Palace Walkthrough (9)

Use our table above to deal damage to Shiki-Ouji. It’ll block all physical attacks, so we hope you’ve got your SP in order for the fight. Once it goes down, make a right for a treasure chest before going to the security room on the left, which contains another laptop for which you’ll need a password.

Go south from here toward the door you opened to make the shortcut, where you’ll hear two shadows talking in riddles. Defeat them after this, then head back to the main hall. In the room with the statue and ramps, check out the statue, which has your password (1120). Go back and put the password in to disarm the lasers and gates.

Leaving that room, go across the hall with the portrait, and open the safe room in the rightmost section of the map. From the safe room, go into the door on your left.

Hall of Paintings

After the next hallway, you’ll hit a cutscene before you need to follow some arrows, jumping off when you get to the camels and going into the painting. Move through the paintings to the second one, and then go through the red arches to get to the green painting.

Persona 5 Royal: Madarame's Palace Walkthrough (10)

Jump out and hit the button, then go back into the painting. Go through Mt. Fuji and past the red gates, where the Kraken will chuck you out of the painting again.

There’ll be shadows here, so deal with them before jumping back into the paintings. Go back to the sea painting, moving to the middle of the boat before jumping back out to press the button on the ledge to activate new paintings for you.

Go through the red arches, and jump to the rock in the green painting after that, and head inside to get to one of the new paintings. Hop back out of it and go through the door here.

There’s a treasure chest in this next room, as well as a bunch of shadows and an item in the men’s room. Once you’ve got everything you want, go through the door at the end.

The Sayuri Puzzle

Persona 5 Royal: Madarame's Palace Walkthrough (11)

Go right from here, up the stairs to grab an item before you jump off the ledge. Take the next set of stairs, then jump off those to grab a treasure chest, climbing the ledge here to fight another shadow. Go straight until you hit a big blue door, which warps you to the next set of stairs.

Here, you see stairs with two Sayuri paintings, and you’ll need to parse out which one is real to continue. Touch the one in red to activate the door, then climb up the ledge to access this newly-oriented door.

In the golden door, you’ll find several Sayuri paintings, and you again have to find the real one (hope you got a good look at it before). Here, it’s the third one containing tree branches.

Go through this door to find more Sayuri paintings, but none of the ones you see immediately are real. That one can be found by going up the stairs until you see the blue door, jumping down from there and touching the painting next to the blue door.

Take the blue door, which spits you back out at the start of this puzzle. This time, go down the stairs to locate a new staircase, and then go to the bottom of that for a treasure chest. Go through the door to the next hall at the bottom of these stairs, going straight in this hall before entering the following room.

You trigger a cutscene with Shadow Madarame and his two guards, and you make a plan to get his treasure here. Climb the ramp for an item, then go toward the left to activate a safe room in here. When you leave the saferoom, head to the security area.

Persona 5 Royal: Madarame's Palace Walkthrough (12)

Open the security room to lift the bars and cut the power, which forces them to run on emergency power instead (as well as triggers some shadows). After your group chats, take the right ramp to the path that was blocked by shutters before, and turn right down that hall for another chest.

Up the next ramp, you’ll be fighting again before you run through these halls. Grab a treasure chest to the right, then go left and deal with the shadow before hitting the next safe room.

From the safe room, go into the next room and go toward the level on the far side of the room. You can’t interact with it yet, really, so climb the ladder and go to the rails, where you’re looking down at the treasure. After a cutscene, you’re able to use that lever, so activate it for another cutscene.

Your work here is done! All that’s left to do is send out your Calling Card and return to the palace one final time to take on Shadow Madarame at last, just like you did with Kamoshida last time. We've got a guide on how to fight him for you below.
